Dear Husky Families,
As the first quarter draws to a close, I wanted to take the time to congratulate your students on a wonderful first quarter. This truly is a learning community. You and your student deserve a Husky High Five for supporting a very successful entertainment book fundraiser and magazine sale. These funds will continue to provide students with excellent opportunities for enrichment both inside and outside of the classroom as well as to support our Ren-aissance program.
Throughout the course of last year our staff developed committees to work on a variety of areas that make up the Heritage experience for parents and students. The committees address 21st century learning, communication, safety, diversity and character to name a few. Suggestions for improvement in these areas were made by students, teachers and parents through PTSA meet-ings. An example of a way in which we will improve communication is by having every teacher have an updated webpage with all of the necessary links you may need to help your students at home. These pages will have a link to online text-books, study island, STAR, etc. Teachers will also be inputting assignments with due dates into PowerSchool so that students and parents can know of and be prepared for upcoming assignments.
During the past quarter we have had two concerns arise that we need your help in addressing, theft in the lunch line and student safety during drop off and pick up times. To address the first concern of theft, we have asked that students remove jackets and/or sweatshirts while in the lunch line. There-fore, students need to make sure to wear appropriate clothing underneath these items. We have explained to students that we will provide food for anyone who is not able to afford lunch as we do not want any children to go hungry. Sec-ondly, we are asking parents that drop off and pick up students to avoid using the side of the parking lot reserved for buses. This creates a dangerous situa-tion when students walk in between buses.
As we make the changes to improve, we will be sure to make you aware through these bi-monthly newsletters that are posted on our webpage . Please continue to utilize PowerSchool online to monitor your student’s progress and our website at www.wcsoh.org for announcements, sports schedules and other pertinent information. You may also contact your student’s teachers, guidance counselor, Mr. Stranges or me via email or by calling the main office line with any questions or concerns.
