Dear Heritage Parents,
I wanted to let you know of our new volunteer procedure that began Monday, January 6th. This policy has always existed; it has just been modified to prevent potential liabilities to both the volunteer and the district. I also wanted to make you aware of the E-Day Lessons that must be completed for future weather related closures in Westerville City Schools.
We now have three "levels" of volunteers. A "level one" volunteer is someone who volunteers at school, or on a field trip and is always within site of a staff member or is in a public space such as the hallway. As a reference- all the volunteers we currently have would be considered "level one" volunteers. Unless requested by an administrator level one volunteers do not need a background check.
A "level two" volunteer is someone who may be with students in an area that is not directly supervised by staff. At school this would rarely be needed as staff is usually in every area except restrooms. On a field trip this could mean that you have your own group of students to tour a facility at your own pace. A level two volunteer must pay to have a background check completed by WCS and will then receive an identification card to prove they have passed the background check. This background check is good for multiple years and can be completed at the Early Learning Center for $50.00.
A “level three” is a volunteer coach. Volunteer coaches with after school sports require BCI & FBI background check (at your expense), as well as other coaching prerequisites. Contact Kevin Thuman, building athletic director.
As you first check in at the office to volunteer we need you to take an extra moment to complete the new volunteer form. On this form you will apply to be a "level one" or a "level two" volunteer as well as sign that you have read the policies listed on the form. You only need to submit this form to one Westerville School. This form must completed each school year.
We appreciate all of our volunteers- we could not do all that we do for children without you!
Weather Related Closings
Please note that if the need should arise, all students are required to access and complete the E-Day lessons prepared for days that weather related closings occur. E-Day Lessons have been pre-prepared by the individual teachers so that the student will not have to make up days of school at the end of the year. To access these lessons go to the individual teachers web pages prepared for that day.
